Shining a Light in Guatemala

MSA’s very own Kevin Gutman and Brad Amos are working to help light up communities abroad and in Las Vegas, NV. These two are a part of ASHRAE’s Southern Nevada Chapter and working on the Light the World Project.

This summer, Kevin and Brad went to Guatemala with a few others from the group and installed the kits in homes of those who do not have access to the electrical grid. The kits include home ventilation, LED lights, electrical charging stations, and battery packs that utilize solar have a minimal environmental impact.

“Being able to give people light for the first time was more than an act of kindness, it was a display of care. There are people out there that have lost all hope, without believing that things will ever change. What we were able to do was to reinstate people’s faith, by letting them know as loudly and as clearly as possible that we care.” – Kevin Gutman
