Architectural Lighting

MSA’s in-house architectural lighting and control systems design provides enhanced coordination and project quality.  We balance sustainability, maintainability and design aesthetics to produce lighting systems that enhance the project.  We bridge the gap between the architect and/or interior designer and the electrical engineer.

Our Lighting Design team has contributed to the visual environment for a variety of regional, national and international projects. Our experience includes architectural lighting and control systems for a wide range of facility types including; hospitality, corporate office, transportation, healthcare, educational, sports and entertainment [maybe recreational], as well as museum and cultural. Our lighting design expertise is applied to interiors, as well landscape and exterior building facades.

Green Building Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical Design

Traditional design practices often overlook the interrelationships between building systems, the environment, and fiscal expenditures. Buildings that do not address sustainable design negatively impacting our environment by generating unnecessary waste and consuming excessive amounts of our resources. The result are buildings that are more costly to operate in terms of energy and water consumption.

Our challenge as Mechanical, Plumbing and Electrical engineers is to design a facility that minimizes the reliance on nonrenewable energy resources while enhancing building marketability and increasing worker productivity. We recognize the importance of balancing initial and operational costs, while increasing the comfort, health, and safety of the building occupants. 

Our firm has successfully completed numerous renewable energy projects including work on Biomass, Geothermal, Solar Hot Water and Solar Photovoltaic systems. These alternate resource designs have helped our clients achieve greater energy efficiency and LEED certified status for their projects. 

MSA has been an integral member of design teams on a number of LEED Silver and Gold certified buildings. We encourage our team to pursue their LEED Accredited Professional [AP] designation, and have numerous LEED APs on-staff. Renewable Energy

MSA is actively involved in the design of renewable energy systems including solar, biomass, and geothermal power markets. We provide a full range of services to bring renewable projects from conceptual design to final completion.  The need for improved energy management solutions, and the demand for renewable energy systems, has created a growth market and MSA Engineering Consultants is delivering advanced technical solutions.

Solar – Photovoltaic

MSA has provided engineering design services for multiple photovoltaic (PV) solar power plants throughout the South-West.  Our experience enables us to integrate plant equipment operation or utility grid connections, and optimize solar field equipment into cost effective, reliable configurations. We have technically simulated and/or designed photovoltaic systems ranging in size from 20 KW to 200MW.

Solar – Hot Water

The MSA team is familiar with the full range of solar hot water designs including; closed loop-Glycol systems, closed loop-drain back systems, and open loop, seasonal/batch. Small systems for commercial tenant use up to larger scale systems for spas/health clubs can be integrated into our domestic hot water system designs upon request.


MSA has provided designs for several waste-to-energy and fuel conversion projects. Our facility designs are generated readily and efficiently using existing plant layouts and collaboration tools. This approach decreases equipment lead times and allows for condensed design schedules.  In traditional biomass to power plants wood feedstock is burned to boil water and produce steam which is then used to generate electricity via turbines. Companies that produce wood products and paper have taken advantage of biomass energy for decades.


Geothermal clients look to MSA Engineering Consultants to provide our in-depth knowledge of large, complex geothermal projects.  MSA’s geothermal experience includes projects in Nevada which utilize the earth for the design of heat exchangers in the form of well fields and ground loops which integrate with heat exchangers for heating and cooling, and/or steam turbines for power generation.
